Following the death of his once-estranged sister, Elise, Daniel is burdened with guilt and haunted by all that was left unsaid between them. Nellie, a compassionate freelance editor with her own story of overcoming grief, agrees to help Daniel in what he hopes will be a simple plan to bring Elise's dream to life.

But even as his collaboration with Nellie develops into unexpected romance, Daniel learns the healing of the heart never follows a simple plan. He is more bruised by grief than he knows, especially when his sister’s seemingly lighthearted drafts reveal hidden truths he may not be ready to face and Elise’s ex-husband, Edward, suspiciously inserts himself back into Daniel's life.
